It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Olive Madeline (Youden) Leyte, of Sydney. Olive passed away at the Cove Guest Home in the early hours of Sunday, November 26, 2017.
Born in Sydney, Olive was the youngest daughter of the Late John and Margaret (MacDermid) Youden.
Olive was a member of First United Church (now known as Sydney Heritage Church) where she sat on many committees and was a member of the UCW. She volunteered for many things but she loved to volunteer at the former Spring Garden Villa.
Olive is survived by two daughters, Roylene (Roly) Corkum, Coquitlam, BC and Sherry (Robert) Spracklin, Sydney. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, who was more like her daughter, Sylvia Leyte.
She leaves behind her eight grandchildren who she loved dearly, Brian Corkum, Coquitlam, BC, Bruce Corkum, Los Angeles, CA, Fayedra Corkum, Vancouver, BC, Linda Leyte, Robert (Laurelle) and Fred (Tracey) Leyte, all of Sydney, Tracey (Mario) LeBlanc, Hammonds Plains, NS, and Darrell (Monica) Sprackin, Bragg Creek, AB
Nanny Obs had 10 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly, Jerrecca (Liam) Devereaux, Shelby (Eric) Steylen, Drew (Emily) Wilcox, Robert (Tiffany), Gregory (Shelby) and Ashley Leyte, Shay Leyte, Morgan, Myranda and Wyatt Corkum, Katelynn and Maxime LeBlanc; as well as her nephew who resided with her for 19 years, Charlie (Sis) MacKeigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1978 her world was rocked by the death of her husband, Charles, and then given another shock at the death of her son, Bobby in 2001.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was predeceased by brothers, Tony 'Alfred', Harry, Jim, Jack and Gus Youden; and two sisters, Winnifred Marsh and Jessie MacKeigan.
A Celebration of Olive’s Life will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Fund, Canadian Cancer Society, The Cove Guest Home, or a charity of Choice.
