HUGHES, Gerald - Peacefully on December 19, 2017 at the Cornwall Community Hospital. Mr. Gerald Arthur Hughes 1935 - 2017. Born in Cornwall to parents Dick and Clara Hughes. Loving friend and husband of Claire Hughes (née Contant) for 61 years. Survived by 6 children; Kim, Cindy, Lynn, Shelley, Jennifer and Jeff. Also adored by, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Brother to Phyllis Jodoin, Carole Hughes and Joyce Charbonneau. Gerry was a lifelong resident of Cornwall who enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and entertaining friends and family at the cottage on the St. Lawrence River. He and Claire enjoyed many retirement winters in Largo, Florida. Gerry was a talented athlete who played many sports throughout his life. He was inducted into the Cornwall Sports Hall of Fame, honoring his years played in The Canadian Football League. The Hughes family would like to express their sincere thanks to the doctors and staff in the Critical Care Unit at the Cornwall Community Hospital for their compassionate care. In accordance with Gerry’s wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
