Passed peacefully away at St. Clare’s Hospital, at the wonderful age of 92, Mrs. Bertha Hierlihy of Bay Roberts, NL. The last of the eleven children of Sophie and Bethlehem Mercer of Bay Roberts, NL and the last WWII veteran in the Bay Roberts area. Predeceased by husband, Adriel Hierlihy, 1993; siblings Lloyd (Muriel), Frank (Ada), Harry, Hayward (Sue), Lewis, Percy (June) Mercer, Ellen (Ron) French, Doris Henderson, Florence (Rick) Marginson and Jean (Stan) Bradbury. Leaving to celebrate her life are her children Joan (Paul) Bourque, Ajax, ON, Carol Ann (David) Mercer, Downton, England, Jennifer (Purdy) Mercer, Bay Roberts, NL and Paul, Ottawa: ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who called her Gran-Nannie; sisters-in-law Molly Oke and Beulah Mercer, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Cremation has taken place and Funeral Home visitation will take place on January 4, 2018, at Moore’s Funeral Home, Bay Roberts, from 2-5 and 7-9. A funeral service will be held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Bay Roberts on January 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Inurnment at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cemetery. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations can be made to St. Matthew’s Anglican Church.
