Amilda (Lachowiez) MacKinnon-Kelly

Amilda (Lachowiez) MacKinnon-Kelly

Lieu de décès : Sydney
Date de décès : 1er janvier 2018

Amilda (Lachowiez) MacKinnon- Kelly, 79, of Sydney passed away on January 1, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital following a brief illness. Amilda “Mel” appreciated how a beautiful garden of flowers could enhance one’s surroundings, and just prior to falling ill, she had arranged for 120 tulip bulbs to be planted for others to enjoy. When spring finally arrives, our family, friends, and acquaintances shall appreciate this expression of love and hope.
Amilda is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Dave) Paulson, Manitoba, and Joanne (Barry) Cooke, British Columbia. Also left to mourn are two sons, John (Rae Ann) MacKinnon, Alberta and Paul MacKinnon (Marjorie Ardelli), Balls Creek. She is survived by two stepdaughters, Belinda (Danny) Jones, Herring Cove, and Jacqueline (Duane) Steinkey, Alberta. She was the proud grandmother of Alex and Elizabeth Paulson, Scott and Paul Cooke, Kayle, Kenzie and Liam MacKinnon and step-grandchildren, Stephanie (Doug) Burgess, Herring Cove with step-great-grandchild, Mason Burgess and Brian (Lauren) Jones, Hubbard’s Nova Scotia. Amilda is survived by her sister, Gloria (Gerald) MacDonald, Sydney; and brother, Michael (Diane) Lachowiez, Mineville & Sydney.
Amilda was living in CFB Trenton, Ontario when her first husband, Captain Alexander “Sandy” MacKinnon passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. She returned to Sydney with her four young children and while there, found a caring family and community ready to support her. Amilda went to work and retired after many years as a dedicated employee of London’s Jewellers on Charlotte Street where she shared her knowledge and love of things that were symbolic of love and commitment.
Amilda was also predeceased by her second husband, Gerald “Gerry” Kelly in 2004. Gerry was a welcome addition to Amilda’s family. Amilda was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Annie Jane (MacKinnon) Lachowiez; brothers, Frederick, Frank, and Robert Lachowiez; sisters, Gladys O’Neil, and Helen MacNeil.
Special thanks to the staff of 4C Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Dr. Paul Murphy, Capital Drug Store, her caring and dedicated neighbours Colleen and Charlie, Joe, Joanne and Jim and Amilda’s dear friend, Pearl.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Polish Parish with Father Richard Philiposki officiating. Reception to follow after mass at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel.
As an expression of sympathy, the family asks, in lieu of flowers, that you would plant a perennial in the spring in memory of Mel.
Donations may be made to your charity of choice or to St.Mary’s Polish Parish rebuilding fund.
Online condolences may be sent to www.twcurry.com.
Thank you and God bless.
Dziękuję, niech Bóg cię błogosławi
