Bruce Baggs, age 73, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at the Western Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Corner Brook, NL. He is survived by his loving wife, Greta, of fifty years; his four daughters: Donna (Dale) Werner, Spruce Grove, AB, Debbie (Connie) Toderan, Dianne (Shawn) Stewart, Dale (Keith) Davidson and his son, David (Trennia), all of Fort McMurray, AB; his nine grandchildren: Leah, Danielle, Jazmin, Andrew, Travis, CJ, Sarah, Emily, Madison; his great-grandson, Jayden Graham and his faithful cat companions: Niko and Sophie. He is further survived by his uncle, Howard (Eva) Wight, Deer Lake, NL; aunt, Gwen Wight, ON; cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and many cherished friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Hedley & Elizabeth Baggs and two sisters: Barbara Pickett and Toby King. Born in Corner Brook, NL, he grew up in the Steady Brook and Deer Lake area. In 1954, he joined the Canadian Forces (Navy), serving for five years, where he met his wife Greta in Halifax, NS. They were married in 1959 and returned to Newfoundland where Bruce worked in the logging industry until he relocated to Fort McMurray, AB in 1981. He worked for Syncrude Canada up to his retiring and in 1997, he and Greta returned to Steady Brook, NL. His knowledge and love of gardening was shared with all those who knew him and he spent countless hours maintaining the family property. He was a member of both the Naval Association and the Legion. He will be fondly thought of and sadly missed. Visitation will take place from Fillatre’s Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark’s Avenue on Wednesday, 2- 4 and 7- 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m. from All Saints Anglican Church, Clarence Street, Reverend Derek Thomas officiating with interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to charity of one’s choice.
