GRAVES, Donald Theodore – age 91, of Grand View Manor, Berwick, formerly of Harmony, Kings Co., peacefully left us to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with family by his side. Donald was born on February 20, 1926, in Harmony, Kings Co., and was a son of the late Percy and Usuetta (Hodges) Graves. Donald was employed by D.N.D. Greenwood as a painter for 33 years, retiring in 1991. As part of his job, he occasionally travelled to Bermuda and Frobisher Bay. After retiring, Donald and his wife, Lila enjoyed trips to Ireland, Australia, the Canadian West and a bus trip to the United States Mid-West. Even in retirement, he kept busy doing small jobs, filling pot holes, picking berries and yard work. Besides his parents, Donald was predeceased by his wife the former Lila M.V. Hatt; daughter, Ruth Marshall; two infant grandchildren; sisters, Frances Samson and Eileen Keating. He is survived by sons, Philip (Jo-Ann), Stephen (Kathy), both of Harmony; James (Christine), of Berwick; son-in-law, Dale Marshall, Morden. Also survived by grandchildren, Stewart, Daniel, Shannon, Becky, Candice, Sarah, Amanda, Esther and Andrew; great-grandchildren, Anna, Hudson, Lydia, Rebecca, Julia and Eli. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m., Saturday evening in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448, from where the funeral service, followed by a reception took place at 2 p.m., Sunday January 7. Mr. John Meekin officiated, with interment in Aylesford Union Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Grand View Manor – Rainforth/Wagner Unit. Donald shared a special bond with granddaughter, Becky and the family would like to thank her for all the visits and special things she did to brighten his days. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Grand View Manor staff on the Rainforth/Wagner Unit for their care and compassion over the years.
