Elsie May MacGregor

Elsie May MacGregor

MacGregor, Elsie May, 88, of Truro; On the early morning of Friday, January 5, 2018, surrounded by her children we kissed our mother good bye as her soul was released to the Lord. Mothers request was to die at home, granting us the privilege to care for her, completely the full circle of love, that she so selflessly gave to us. Born in Western Shore in 1929, she was a daughter of the late Wallace and Mary Anne (Frost) Swinimer. She is survived by her son, David (Darlene) MacGregor, Truro; daughters, Joanne (Charles) Sinclair, Truro, Cathy (Greg) Murray, Hart Lake, Patricia (Jeff) Yuill, Old Barns, Christine (Jim) Flemming, Truro; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Morrow, England; sister-in-law, Bonnie (Donnie) Stevens, Salmon River; She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Edward “Joe” MacGregor; sister, Ida Swinimer; brothers, Fred Swinimer, Cecil Swinimer, who was killed in W.W. ll. Mom moved back to England as a young girl just prior to W.W. ll. She came back to Canada as a young woman for a vacation and met our father, and as dad always said, “the vacation never ended”. Elsie was a proud and long-time member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Truro, serving with the CWL and helping out in various committees. Her most satisfying was taking communion to the sick in the hospital until she had to reluctantly give up due to vision loss. Her desire to stay at home was made possible with the caring and support of Katherine, Dianne, Margie, Janice, Louie and Jane. Also to the VON Home Support, and the VON Palliative Care Team. A huge thankyou to all these wonderful people. Special thanks to Dr. Ellis and the Family Village Pharmacy. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, from where visitation will be held 6 – 8 pm Wednesday, January 10. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11 am, January 11, at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street Truro, with Father Dariusz Miskowicz officiating. A reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Interment will be held at a later date in the Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Elsie’s memory may be made to the CNIB or to the Guatemala Project. Private messages of condolence can be sent to the family by viewing Elsie’s obituary and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
