Elizabeth (Littlejohns, Thompson) Curry

CURRY (Thompson, Littlejohns), Elizabeth
Age 95. Born in Chatham NB, Beth was the daughter of Rev. Frank and Helen (Forsyth) Littlejohns of Charlottetown, PEI. She was predeceased by brother, Rev. Donald Littlejohns of Calgary, sister, Nancy Creelman of Ottawa, and husband Harold Curry. Beth is survived by loving children Hugh (Anne Holland) Thompson, Nancy Thompson, Carolyn Littlejohns (Denis Lafontaine) and beloved granddaughters Naomi Heikalo, Nina Thompson and Delphine Holland. She was affectionately “adopted” by three step-sons Michael (Janice Vassallo) Curry, Tim (Colleen) Curry and Jonathan (Janet) Curry and their families (six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren). Also in her close family circle are her brother’s family Elaine, Bob and Gordon Littlejohns, her sister’s family June, David and William Creelman, and many nieces and nephews. With fond memories of a musical, lively, and intellectual home life in Saint John NB and Petite Riviere NS, Beth graduated from Dalhousie University in 1943. She lived in Shirreff Hall residence, where she met many life-long friends. At Dal she met Harold (Hal) Thompson, and after their marriage began teaching at the Halifax Ladies College. Upon his ordination in the United Church of Canada, Beth served with him in parishes of Bass River NS, East Saint John NB, Windsor NS, Lachute QC and Montreal QC. After Hal’s death, Beth returned to work as a school secretary and was a volunteer in adult literacy in Montreal. Beth was a loyal friend and faithful correspondent, remaining in contact with friends and family via email, letters and birthday cards. One longstanding friendship blossomed into a loving second marriage with Harold Curry in 1991. Beth and Harold found great happiness together until Harold’s death in 2012. The family thanks the staff of Fergus Hall and Colchester East Hants Health Centre for their care and kindness. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 17 at 2pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro. Reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Literacy Nova Scotia, PO Box 1516, Truro NS B2N 3V2 or St. Andrews United Church, 55 King Street, Truro NS B2N 3K8.
