Marina Joyce Critchley

Marina Joyce Critchley

Date de naissance : 5 juillet 1935

Date de décès : 10 janvier 2018

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Marina Joyce Critchley (nee Bixby) announce her peaceful passing at St. Luke’s Homes in St. John’s, NL, aged 83 years. Marina is predeceased by her husband Walter Critchley, father John Bixby, and mother Mabel Bixby (Collins). Marina was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Marina grew up on Indian Islands in Notre Dame Bay. Sadly, her mother Mabel passed away when she was but a baby and her father eventually remarried. At the age of 18, after her father’s death, she moved to Grand Falls and took a position as a sales clerk at the Royal Stores, a job she greatly enjoyed. She made many life long friends, and met and subsequently married her loving husband of 59 years, Walter Critchley. Marina enjoyed her home life. She was an accomplished cook and baker and really loved to garden and read. She also thoroughly enjoyed travel, politics, and watching Coronation Street. She was a constant and true friend, and a lady through and through. She enjoyed many happy summer and autumn months, fishing and hunting with Walter from their cabin on West Lake. She was a dedicated volunteer for many years with the Canadian Cancer Society, serving many terms as President and Treasurer of her local branch. However, throughout her life, her primary focus never wavered from what was most important to her: her family. She enthusiastically supported her husband’s many civic roles, and was always a lovingly engaged and supportive mother and grandmother. Nothing gave her more joy than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were never far from her mind and always close to her heart. Left to mourn her passing, with an abiding sense of love and so many happy memories, are her daughter Deborah (Gregor) Mawhinney; grandchildren Tiffany (Elliot Williams); Aaron, Rebecca and Jonathan; great-grandchildren Liam Mawhinney, Aurora Williams, and Cabot Williams. Also left to mourn are brothers-in-law Raymond Critchley; George Critchley (Alma); sister-in-law Joan Madder (Derrick); as well as her nieces and nephews and her many friends; most especially her dearest friend Judy Miller. The funeral service took place January 20, 2017 at 11 am from Memorial United Church, Grand Falls-Windsor. Interment will be at a later date. Expressions of sympathy and love may be made in her memory to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
