Date de décès : 17 janvier 2018

Lyons Brook – Eric Georgeson, age 68, of Lyons Brook, Pictou County, passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2018. He was the son of the late Alton Clifford Georgeson and Winona "Sally" (Wark) Georgeson.
At the young age of eight he received a microscope for Christmas and was a “bug” enthusiast ever since. He started his passion in science by studying at the Agriculture College, Truro (1971) and then at McGill University, Montreal (1975), focusing on entomology. Afterwards, he continued fulfilling his life calling by working for the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources as the Provincial Entomologist. Eric’s passion and love of science was evident not only in his research and news articles, but also in his hobbies. Eric had a genuine love of teaching and helping people by making himself available to anyone who might call or stop him on the street with a science question. He was lovingly dubbed, “The Bug Man of Pictou County”. After retirement, he obtained a position at Dalhousie to teach the next generation everything there was to know about insects.
He not only enjoyed science but was an avid reader. In particular, he enjoyed reading about history, science fiction and was especially fond of poetry. He was also an active member of The Baptist Church.
Eric is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Debby (Brown) Georgeson in Lyons Brook; son, Matthew (Lisa) and grandsons Ben and Theo in Scotsburn; son, Chris (Karen) and grandson Oliver in New Glasgow; daughter, Melissa (Ryan) in Greenwood; and sister Mary Ellen (Stuart) Ashman in Red Deer. He will be dearly missed by family and friends, including his sister-in-law, Cindy Lemon (Terry), and niece, Shannon. He will be remembered as a gentle and loving soul.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation 2-4 pm Saturday, in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral service 2 pm Sunday, in First United Baptist Church, East River Road, New Glasgow, with Rev. John Dunnett and Rev. Dr. Morley Shaw officiating. Interment will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
Special thanks to those who sent their kind regards and prayers during his illness and to the nursing staff at Glen Haven. As well, a very special thanks to Nita Sellars for all her help during his illness. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca
