Audrey Shields

Date de décès : 24 janvier 2018

Audrey Shields went to her eternal life surrounded by her family at the Heart of the Valley Nursing Home on January 24, 2018 at the age of 93. She is now reunited with her husband, Lorne Bruce, her son, William (Bill), her parents, Harold and Leota Rice, and her brother Clyde Alton (Sonny) Rice. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bruce(Joy) Shields of Middleton; Judi(John) Randles of Waverley; Audrey(Ken MacDougall) Shields of New Minas; Leslie(Bill) Small of Cottage Cove; her daughter in law Debbie Shields of Middleton; her thirteen grandchildren and her twenty-two great grandchildren. Audrey was born in Bear River on August 18, 1924 and spent her childhood in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia. In 1944 she married Lorne and over the next 20 years they moved their growing family to Ottawa, Yorkton and Fredericton. When Lorne retired from the RCMP in 1964, she and her family returned to Nova Scotia and bought a farm in South Williamston, Annapolis County. In between raising five children, taking care of the house and working on the farm, Audrey managed to find time to be a very active member of the United Church of Lawrencetown, the Women's Institute and could be found any given Saturday at the cattle sales working in their canteen. She was also a member of the Valley Rose Rebekah Lodge, loved to play 45's Tuesday nights at the South Williamston Community Hall, coffee Thursday morning with "the girls” and later in life joined the Seniors New Horizon Club and the Red Hatter's. When the United Church in Lawrencetown had to close its doors, Audrey returned to the denomination of her parents and became a member of the Lawrencetown Baptist Church. Audrey was so much more than words can convey and she will be missed. Our family cannot express the gratitude we have to Dr. Saxon and all of the staff at the Heart of the Valley Nursing Home. We will always be grateful to everyone who works there for the love and compassion they showed to our mother. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. 902-825-3448. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life services will be held at 11 am on Feb 1, 2018 at the Middleton Funeral Home with Rev. Patty Beals officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Fairview Cemetery in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia. On line guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
