It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gail Bourassa (Sumner). Gail passed away peacefully on Feb 5th, 2018 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Leoville, SK. after her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Melanoma. Gail was a loving wife, nurturing mother, caring sister and kind soul to her many friends and extended family. She was a selfless individual and carried this compassion into her daily work as a registered nurse at Holy Family and Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, and later at the Evergreen Centre in Leoville, SK. Gail was born on July 4th, 1949 in Macklin, SK. and grew up on a farm outside of Evesham, SK. Gail and her siblings walked 2km to school uphill both ways where she had perfect attendance and excelled in mathematics. Gail married her first husband Ravi Prakash in 1973 in Evesham, SK, and had two children together; Sara and Neil. In 1997, Gail married Maurice Bourassa in Prince Albert and went on to have a loving marriage of 20 years until her death. Gail moved with Maurice to Spiritwood and settled near her new extended family which she embraced as her own. Gail’s time on her acreage outside Spiritwood was spent entertaining her numerous friends and family and looking after their hobby farm. Gail and Maurice frequently attended dances, playing cards, visiting friends, and lengthy road trips. Gail is preceded by her mother Retta Sumner (Walker), her father Lisle Sumner, her twin brother Gary Sumner, father-in-law Omer Bourassa, nephew Joey Jaster and niece Samantha Bourassa. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Maurice Bourassa, daughter Sara Prakash (Greg Bardal), son Neil Prakash (Hiroko Kobayashi), grandchildren Cohen and Nola Bardal, father of her children Ravi (Susan) Prakash, sisters Dawn Sumner, Lynn Sumner-Cunningham (Bob) and Teri Gartner (Ernie), brothers Clay Sumner (Vivian), Wade Sumner (Susan), mother-in-law Laurette Bourassa, step sons Jerry Bourassa, Aristide Bourassa (Candida) and Brent Bourassa (Barbie), brother-in-law Roger Bourassa (Barb), Blair Bourassa (Jade), sisters-in-law Sylvia Courchene, Clair Thompson (Vance), Helen Frantic (Bob) and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and grandchildren. The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb 13th, 2018 at 1:00 pm from the Leoville Community Hall, Leoville, SK with Delores Beaulac officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
