Katherine “Kay” Vienneau
1923-2018

Katherine “Kay” (Skoke) Vienneau died peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 in Glen Haven, New Glasgow.
Born on April 24, 1923, in Dol, (Croatia) Yugoslavia, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Veronica Skoke. On January 7, 1929, Kay arrived at Pier 21. She lived most of her life in Stellarton, where together with her sisters, Kay owned and operated Skoke’s Hair Stylists. She was a talented and highly-respected hairdresser, retiring after 47 years of service.
Kay moved to Trenton in 2015, to live with her grandson’s family. For three years she enjoyed the loving care of Gregory and Kathy Vienneau and their children, Taylor and Reanne.
Kay was a devout Catholic, who loved her faith, attending daily Mass until failed health. Kindness came naturally to Kay and her generosity knew no bounds, as did her friendly smiles and easy laugh. She occasionally would say something witty or wise; but it was how she lived her life that spoke volumes. She truly leaves a legacy of faith and love.
Kay is survived by her son, Fred A. (Sheila) Vienneau, Stellarton; grandchildren, Bruce (Bonnie) Vienneau, Kitimat, B.C., Dennis (Wendy) Vienneau, Plymouth, Theresa (Robert) Vienneau, Scotsburn, Denise Vienneau, New Glasgow, Beverly (Aaron) Vienneau, Stellarton, Lana Vienneau, Westville, Annette (John) Cornwall, Halifax, Gregory (Kathy) Vienneau, Trenton, Michelle Hines, Stellarton; 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Brother, Alex (Betty) Skoke, Stellarton; Daughter-in-law Peggy Vienneau, Stellarton. Many nieces and nephews.
Kay was predeceased by her husband Frederick J. Vienneau; her sons Bruce and Dennis Vienneau; her grandson David Vienneau; and sisters, Doris Langley, Rose Mayich, and Anna MacLeod; daughter-in-law, Mary-Ann Vienneau.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 23rd in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton.
Requiem Mass will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 24th in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, Fr. Barrett Clare-Johnson and Fr. Peter MacDonald concelebrating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.
A special thanks to Sharon Chisholm for her kind care and support. Kay’s family would also like to thank the Glen Haven staff for their excellent care and compassion given over the last several months.
