It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Frank Sidney Crewe, age 60, beloved father, grandfather, son and brother, on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at home.
Born in North Sydney, February 21, 1958, Frank was the son of Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (Jackson) Crewe and the late Hector Ross Crewe. He was an avid golfer from an early age and longtime member and former Junior Club Champion, of the Seaview Golf and Country Club. In younger years he enjoyed playing hockey, cross country skiing, paint by numbers, listening to music and recently began learning to play the guitar. Frank was employed as the caretaker of Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney for 28 years, later working at Syncrude Aurora Mine, Alberta as a heavy equipment operator. He was credited with driving the first haul truck for 100,000 operating hours.
Besides his mother, Betty Crewe, Frank is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann (Travis) Middleton, Wyoming, USA and her mother, Marilyn Crewe; his two grandchildren, Sidney Elizabeth and Shane Thomas; his brother, David Ross (Mehran) Crewe; niece, Mona Lynds; nephew, Golshan Crewe; special daughter-in-law, Grace, and by a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Frank was predeceased by his father, Hector Ross Crewe in 2016, and his son, Frank Thomas Crewe in 2015.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, in the WJ Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, at a later date.
