Ruth Mollon

Lieu de décès : Sydney
Date de décès : 10 mars 2018

We regret to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Ruth Mollon, on March 10, 2018 at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, Sydney at the age of 90.
Born to Manoah and Alice (Murrin) Mollon, Mom grew up on Henry Street in the Pier. She attended the Truro School for girls in her teen years which she truly enjoyed, where she learned her meticulous cooking and cleaning skills. She later moved to Halifax to work where she met and married her former husband, Vincent Oickle. Together they lived in Moser River with their three eldest children, David, Alice and Gary. They later moved to Sydney where they had three more children; twins, Kelly and Karen, and Stephen.
Mom enjoyed lunching at Diana Sweets Restaurant in Sydney with her sisters, drawing exaggerated caricatures of other patrons to see if they could guess who they were and to have a chuckle. She shared her love of skating with her sisters and her children at the Old Sydney Forum. She also enjoyed camping in Mira. In later years, Ruth received her GED for Grade 12 and went on to take several courses at the former UCCB (CBU) and NSCC. Ruth enrolled in art classes which she truly enjoyed and displayed her pictures on her wall beside pictures of her children and family members. Her children and grandchildren were her prized possessions and she pushed them to do their best. The love she had for them was equal only to that for her parents (Momma and Papa) with whom she will be laid to rest.
Mom is survived by her children, David, Alice (John) MacNeil, Gary (Elsa), Kelly (Emily Bellefontaine), Karen (Joe) MacIsaac, and Stephen (Jeannie); sister, June MacIntyre; brothers, Donnie (Marilyn) and Winston; sister-in-law, Fern; grandchildren, John David, Alexis, Tanya, Robert, Derek, Michelle, Stephanie, Travis and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Riel, Layla and Shaemus; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by siblings, Violet (Clarence) Dickinson, Lydia (Melvin) Fraser, Dorothy Watson, Leslie (Barbara), Sidney (Jean), Grace Carter, Cecil and Arthur as well as brother-in-law, Albert MacIntyre and former husband, Vince Oickle.
Visitation for Ruth will take place today, Wednesday, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
A celebration of her life will take place the following day, Thursday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant to officiate. Reception to follow. Internment at Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Family flowers only, please. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Messages and memorials may be directed to www.chantfuneralhome.ca.
“Mom, a mother’s love is a blessing and we were truly blessed to have you as our mother. May you now rest peacefully in heaven for all eternity. We love and miss you, Mom.”
