It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of Richard Blanchard on March 22, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Thomas and Catherine (Taylor) Blanchard.
Richard worked as a miner in #12 Colliery and then he went out to Grande Cache to work in the mines, later on he moved back to Cape Breton. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and especially fishing in Wreck Cove and he had a love for hound dogs and he also loved to play the guitar and harmonica.
Richard is survived by his lovely wife of 57 years, Mary (Campbell); sons, Bobby (Julie), Richard “Dickie” (Dorothy), both of Grande Cache, Jimmy (Laura), Halifax and Wilfred (Steve), Calgary; daughters, Debby (Sandy) and Darlene (Ernie), all of New Waterford.; sister, Madge Hurley; brother, Bobby (Evelyn); in-laws, Pius and Tena Campbell and Tena and Brian MacKinnon; fifteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren, who he loved very much; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by granddaughter, Kyla and brother-in-law, Roddie.
As per Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a chapel service to celebrate his life will be held Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial at a later date.
A luncheon will be at the K.O.C., Plummer Avenue, New Waterford and all are welcome.
