June Marie Bushen, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2018 in Ivany Place, Bedford. June was born on August 10, 1920 in New Cumberland, Lunenburg County and was the second eldest daughter of the late Wilson and Mary Himmelman.
She spent her childhood years in LaHave where she attended school to Grade 10. June then began employment at the J.F. Creaser’s Factory where she became a seamstress making men’s clothing. After working there for 7 years, June moved on to Halifax working in various retail stores. June loved social events and being with people. She had been involved in Sunday School and Choir in church; C.G.I.T. (Canadian Girls in Training); Girl Guides in LaHave and later became a member of the Pinehurst, Rebekah Lodge, No. 95 in Liverpool. June joined various church guilds and remained strong in her faith. She received her Lifetime Achievement Award for her service to the St. Stephen’s Ladies’ Guild in Sydney. She remained a member of the A.C.W. (Anglican Church Women) and later became a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Ladies’ Friendship Group in Beaver Bank. Keeping up with her long-time service to Guiding, June also enjoyed the Trefoil Guild. June loved music, dancing, singing, playing cards, knitting and various crafts. She joined the The Red Hat Society, the Classy Lassies, as well as the Sackville Seniors Advisory Council while living in Sackville.
June is predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Lee Bushen, formerly of West Dublin; her daughters, Mary (in infancy), Judith and Leah, and her sisters, May and Doreen.
June is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Melvin) Ross, Upper Sackville; grandson, Norman MacQueen, Sydney; granddaughter, Danielle Deveaux and great-grandson, Koady, Edmonton; sister, Mona Roberts; son-in-law, Paul Church, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to the entire staff of Bluenose Cove and the rest of the Ivany Place Team for their many years of continued care, love and support. A special thank you to June’s faithful sitter and friend, Jocelyn McCormack.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 27 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, March 28 at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 28 Trinity Lane, Beaver Bank. Rev. Cathy Lee Cunningham officiating. Burial following the service in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Sackville, with a reception to follow in the church hall.
