KENNEDY, Captain Edward C "Bud" - Age 86, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018. Born in Mulgrave, N.S. on November 26, 1931 he was a son of the late Capt. Aloysius and Rita (Keating) Kennedy. He enjoyed sports throughout his life, playing baseball, hockey, golf, pool and many outdoor activities. His marine career started in Mulgrave aboard the SS Scotia. He, along with many other Mulgrave mariners, moved to Yarmouth as part of the crew of the M.V. Bluenose in 1955. He also served aboard the MV Marine Cruiser, SS Gypsum Queen, MV Marine Evangeline and the MV Marine Bluenose. He enjoyed every day at sea and was always keenly aware of the weather, keeping an eye out for the next big blow. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and one of the early members of the Chebogue River Aquatic Club. In his retirement he enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing with Clayton, boating on the river with Hugh, and Mariners Hockey games. He is survived by his wife of over sixty years Vivian (Cleveland) Kennedy; sons, Richard (Maureen Candie) of Montreal, and Scott (Melanie Smith) of Yarmouth; daughters, Deborah (Randy) Cook, and Kelly (Randy) Pippy of Yarmouth; former daughter-in-law Denise Olsen; sisters, Yvonne Ryan, Calgary, Alta., and Rosalie Kennedy of Ottawa, Ont.; sister-in-law Ruby Kennedy of Moncton, N.B; brothers-in-law, George (Jean) Cleveland of Yarmouth, and Wallace Fahie, Saskatoon, Sask.; grandchildren, Ryan, Jared, Mitchell, Anastacia Cook and Katia Antispenka; Patrick, Ethan, and Emma Kennedy; Katelyn, Victoria and Shane Pippy; Devin and Zachary Kennedy; and their partners. His great grandchildren, Amelie, Kyla, Vivian, Jordan, Milana, Brooklynn, Abbie, Patrick, Alexis and Grace. His many caring nieces and nephews of both Kennedy and Cleveland families. He was predeceased by his brothers, Germain, B.C. and Paul, Moncton, NB, as well as sisters, Adair and husband Gary Meagher, Mulgrave; Dawna and Merle Crittenden, Quebec, and brother-in-law Patrick Ryan, Calgary. On January 7, 2018, he had lost 2 great grandchildren, Jayla Kennedy and Winston Prouty in a tragic fire. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 7-9 pm in the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Yarmouth. Funeral Mass took place Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 1 pm from the St. Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Burial in the Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to charity of your choice. Final arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth.
