Trenton - Elizabeth "Betty" Riggs. It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (MacDonald, Frazee) Riggs, announce her passing on April 8, 2018, at home. Betty was born in New Glasgow on August 10, 1945, the only child Daniel and Gladys (Kelly) MacDonald would be blessed with. She was predeceased by her husband, Roy Riggs, her parents, and infant daughters Rhonda and Tammy. She leaves behind her 5 beautiful children: Danny (Helen), Halifax; Scott (Sandi), The Valley; Nancy (Rob), Falmouth; Susan (Tom), Trenton; Ted (Susan B.), The Valley. Nanny also leaves behind her 4 cherished grandchildren, Lacie, Cody, Lane and Jesse, and her “baby”, her treasured white car; also, first husband and friend, Ronald Frazee. Mom enjoyed spending time with her family, whom she was so proud of. Holidays, vacations and Sunday dinners made her happiest surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren. Extended visits to The Valley and RV trips with the whole family were also among her very favorite things. Betty learned to play piano at an early age and complemented her strong faith in God by playing the organ at church for years and entertaining her friends and family. She also loved to sew, and owned her own sewing/fabric shop at the Aberdeen Mall, and worked at independent sewing shops until her retirement. In retirement, Betty loved spending time with her best friend Ann, and her friends at the senior’s home where she lived. She also loved her nightly visits from her daughter Susan, as well as their weekly shopping trips together. Mom loved to be near water, and anything nautical. Always looking for new experiences, Mom got her first tattoo (her kids names) at age 70. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors who wish to pay their respects from 3-5 pm Saturday, at R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow, with a short service to follow at 5pm, Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the Porter Street Seniors Home, Trenton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, where Betty was a devoted member for many years. Condolences may be sent by visiting: www.rhporter.ca
