It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, that we, the family, announce the passing of Angus Gerard McKenzie on Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, Angie was the son of the late Joe and Maggie (Ryan) McKenzie. He was a member of the former St. Agnes Church. Angie worked in No. 12, No. 26 collieries and retired from Lingan in 1983. While employed at Devco; he was also a draggerman. Angie was an avid ball player in his younger years and he enjoyed a good game of cards. He was gifted with a great sense of humour. Angie will be greatly missed by, 'Kenzie', his pet Yorkie, his shadow whom he loved very much.
Angie is survived by his loving wife, Heather (Gillis) McKenzie; sons, Andrew, Gordie, Kevin; stepson, Troy Robblee (Sheri); daughters, Colleen (Bruce McDonald), Norma (Michael Mullins), Kelly and grandchildren, Brittany, Ami, Vince, Cole, Tyler.
Also surviving are eight brothers, Raymond (Annie Mae), Hughie (Mary), Duncan, Jimmy, Sandy (Brenda), Wayne (Sherry), Jerry (Mary), Bruce (Sharon) and two sisters, Cecilia (Rudy Magliaro) and Marcie.
Angie was predeceased by a sister, Matilda and a brother, Murray.
There will be no visitation or funeral mass. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. All are invited to join the family for a reception on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Leonard's Hall on Convent Street.
As an expression of sympathy for Angie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
