THELMA ROSE 'DOTTIE' SIMON-GRANT

Dr. Thelma Rose ‘Dottie’ Simon-Grant, DDS June 16, 1924 – May 3, 2011, peacefully passed away in Toronto after a lengthy illness.
Thelma was born to Elgin and Estella Simon of Essex Hall, Parish of St Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies, the sixth of seven daughters.
Thelma was a compassionate lady of deep faith, humility, generosity and integrity who lived daily what she truly believed. She was a humanitarian of tender heart for poverty-stricken children all over the world, she supported several ministries.
Strong in her faith, Thelma wrote many chapters on her “Precious Moments with my Beloved”. She attended church regularly, taught Sunday School classes and read the Bible daily.
Throughout her life, Thelma had a passion for learning starting her career as a Pharmacist then becoming a Doctor of Dental Surgery. During her life’s journey, she also earned a RPN license, certificates for computer studies and numerous other disciplines.
She practiced dentistry in both Jamaica, W.I., and Canada in Moose Jaw, and Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan prior to retiring to Florida, New York and finally Toronto.
Along with her cooking and crocheting talents, she is fondly remembered for her love of music, fashion, flowers, gardening, healthy lifestyle and providing service to her communities.
Preceded by her beloved parents, four dear sisters, Eslen “Cissie” Simon, Hazel “Pearl” Miller, Edna “Robin” Dixon, and Linett “Daiz” Ewart.
Thelma now is dearly missed and mourned by sisters Beryl “Petty” Simon, and Ivy “Birdie” Simon, her nieces, Audrey Ewart, Lorna Goldsmith (Marion) and their children – Aaron Wilkowski, Deanne Curtis, Charlotte Curtis, (Matthieu), many relatives and friends to whom she was an inspiration and ever loyal friend.
Her family and friends give heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Shepherd Lodge who cared for Thelma over the past seven years and special gratitude to her daily visitors, Dianne, Joan, Lynn, and Pam who provided the extra TLC.
A private cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to a service and celebration of Thelma’s life on Thursday, May 26, 2011, 1:00 p.m. at Shepherd Village, Church in the Village, Sanctuary, 3760 Sheppard Avenue East, Scarborough, ON.
