REDING, Allan Leo

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, companion and friend, Allan, who passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dad was born May 8, 1950 to Marie and Joseph Reding and grew up in Prince Albert, SK. He married Shirley Caboche in 1973 and together they raised two daughters, Kerri and Jennifer. They were married for over 30 years and, although they divorced in 2005, a friendship and special love remained. In 2007, Dad met Irene Petryshen and they shared many memorable times together until her recent passing on March 1, 2018. Dad worked as an aircraft engineer for over 40 years with Athabasca Airways and later Transwest Air. He always spoke of his career in aviation as a great experience full of many adventures in northern Saskatchewan. He was a mentor for many and made some great lifelong friends at the hangar. He always looked forward to coffee with the boys, even after retirement. His last ‘hangar’ coffee made him smile from ear to ear. A heart felt thank you to Transwest Air for sending all the Dinner Rush meals this past year. It meant a lot to Dad that you thought of him while he was going through treatment. Dad enjoyed everything mechanical. His passion for riding, fixing, and talking about motorcycles was apparent to all who met him. He loved breathing new life into old motorcycles and you could always find him in the garage tinkering with another bike, excited to hear that perfect roar. One of his greatest joys was riding with friends, wind blowing through his hair looking forward to another great adventure. He had so many wonderful memories about these trips including the annual trips to Sturgis, South Dakota. You could always count on him having the latest Sturgis t-shirts to prove it. His grandchildren were the center of his life. He looked forward to visiting with them, telling stories, and learning what was important in their lives. Thanks to Grandpa Al’s patience, guidance and kind ways, our kids learned to skate, ride their bikes and drive. He never missed an opportunity to take his grandchildren for a motorcycle ride. Thank you to Dr. Dueck and nurse Kathy for giving Dad strength and hope along his cancer journey. Your kindness will never be forgotten. We cannot possibly list everyone on the St. Paul’s palliative care team that cared for Dad in his last few weeks. You are all dear to our hearts and we are certain you will have a special place in heaven. Our last month with Dad was filled with many laughs and cherished moments because of you. A huge thank you to my Dad’s neighbors, Don and Cynthia, for helping him out in Vanscoy. Allan is loved and remembered by his daughters Kerri (Reg) Nakoneshny, Jennifer (James) Woloschuk; grandchildren Faith and Clara Nakoneshny, Harrison and Matthew Woloschuk; sister Louise; brothers Leo and Harold; Aunt Hilda; as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Marie Reding; brother Francis; and sister Mariann. A Vigil for Allan will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. Both services will be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Rd, Saskatoon, SK. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation - Palliative Care Unit (1702 20th St. W., Saskatoon, S7M 0Z9). Arrangements in care of Chelsea Krentz – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200 www.mourningglory.ca
