It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we have to announce the sudden passing of Victor Alvin Foster on May 3, 2018 at the Halifax Infirmary hospital. Victor, known as V.A., was born in Edam Saskatchewan and was the son of the late Victor and Emily Foster.
Vic joined the Canadian Air Force at an early age and served for 25 years as an Electrical Technician. While in the service he met Lorraine, his wife of 60 years and they shared a tour in France early in their marriage. As is normal for service members, Vic made many moves with his wife and family and eventually they made their way to Cape Breton, Lorraine's home, where he decided to retire.
Victor then spent many years involved with Laubach Literacy as an Each One Teach One tutor, helping many people achieve an important goal in their lives. Big Brothers/Big Sisters also benefitted from many volunteer hours that Vic was willing to offer.
Victor was especially proud of his grandsons Daniel and Liam and enjoyed spending time with them from the day they were born.
Victor is survived by his daughters, Suzan (George) Finney, Sydney Mines and Kathy (Alan) MacIntyre, Southside Boularderie; son, Bill, Calgary; grandsons, Daniel and Liam MacIntyre, Southside Boularderie; sisters-in-law, Sissy Rutherford, Halifax, Thelma Darrow, Sydney, Alice (Buck) Hickey, North Sydney and Helen MacIsaac, Halifax, and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his parents, Victor was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine, on February 9 of this year; sister, Carrie Blais; niece, Collette Blais; brothers-in-law, Dookie Darrow, Donnie Rutherford, Aubry Dawson and Michael MacIsaac, and sister-in-law, Frances Dawson.
Many thanks to the staff of the 6th floor CCU and ICMU units of the Halifax Infirmary for their care and compassion.
As per Victor's wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service.
There will be an interment service for both Victor and his wife Lorraine to be announced and held at a later date.
