It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Alice MacSween, age 83, on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in North Sydney on June 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Avis (Fraser) Andrews.
Alice spent most of her married life living in Mabou, where she and her husband Michael raised their family. She worked for several years as a school librarian, was a volunteer with the Mabou Volunteer Fire Department and was well known for her seamstress work and cake decorating.
After the passing of her husband, she moved back to North Sydney and eventually into the Northside Community Guest Home. Alice enjoyed the years she spent at the Guest Home and took an active role in fundraising activities for the Foundation and was an editor to the monthly newsletter. She willingly shared her many talents with everyone. Her quick wit was enjoyed by all.
Alice is survived by her four sons, Drew (Malena) MacSween, Enfield, NS, Peter (AnnMarie) MacSween, Toronto, Michael (Julie) MacSween, Glenville, NS, Tom (Kim) MacSween, Ottawa; two daughters, Helen (Cecil) Spears, Port Hood, Joan Hill, Vancouver; by her 15 grandchildren, Shawn (Brittany), Brent, Jeremy, Alex (Meagan), Aaron, Cory (Courtney), James (Cheyenne), Cindy, Alyssa (Alex), Gary (Suzanne), Kailah, Brandon, David, Adam, Michael; twelve great grandchildren and by her two sisters, Georgie (Harold) Skinner, North Sydney and Myrna Bazsay, Toronto.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Gerard and an infant son, David James.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in Palliative Care and CCU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Special thanks to the Northside Community Guest Home for their compassion and friendship.
There will be no visitation by request. A private family gathering and burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Northside Community Guest Home Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
