ROBERTSON, Millie Grace, our baby shark, mama’s bug and a brave heart warrior, passed away peacefully in the arms of her parents on May 2nd, 2018 at Emily’s House in Toronto, Ontario. She was surrounded by love, sunshine, music, flowers and her loving family.
Millie was born on December 23rd, 2016, in Toronto, Ontario to her parents Derek and Caroline Robertson. During her short 16 months of life, she touched the hearts of many people and was loved deeply by family and friends. We were so blessed for the time spent with this miracle child. Known to her parents as the youngest Billy Joel fan, she enjoyed listening and dancing to all types of music. When she danced she would make the room sparkle. She always would be calm and smile when her Daddy sang ‘Piano Man’. Despite so many health challenges in her life, Millie was compassionate, always comforting mommy. She was such a brave little girl, going through so many complicated medical procedures, starting from inside mommy’s womb to her final days, but always had time to show her beautiful smile and love of life. Miss Independent, Millie was determined to do everything on her own, such as feeding herself, taking her medications, getting dressed, and using her Ipad. Millie thrived and was so beautiful inside and out with her bouncing curls, blue eyes and long thick eye lashes. Daddy will always treasure the time he spent eating and dunking cookies with Millie. Oatmeal cookies and Bear Paws were her favorite.
Millie is survived by her parents, Derek and Caroline (King) Robertson (Yarmouth, NS); her maternal grandparents, Laura (Burgess) and Thomas King (Bedford, NS) and paternal grandparents Douglas and Catherine (Tough) Robertson (Bedford, NS); her maternal and paternal uncles, Raleigh King (Halifax, NS) and Alexander Robertson (Bedford, NS); godmother, Jennifer Cousineau (Saint John’s Nfld); her maternal great grandparents, Briant and Patricia (Grainger, deceased) Burgess (Halifax, NS) and Henry (deceased) and Sarah (Blackie) King (Cape Breton, NS) and paternal great grandparents William and Joan (Jennex) Tough (West Pennant, NS) and Shirley (Kidston) and Cecil (deceased) Robertson (Halifax, NS); and her many great uncles and aunts, cousins and others.
A celebration of Millie’s life took place at Point Pleasant Park in Halifax, NS on May 12th, 2018 from 1 to 3 pm, gathering at the Sailors Memorial. In the event of rain, an alternate location has been planned at Bedford United Church. All who loved Millie were invited. People were asked to wear their happy clothes (bright colors), bring their musical instruments, a picnic lunch, blankets and beach chairs and of course dogs were welcome too. We celebrated the life of our beautiful Miss Millie with a huge family picnic. The family issued an open invitation for anyone who wanted to share a memory of Millie or play a song for her as part of the celebration. The Family is asking that, in-lieu of flowers, donations be made to Emily’s House in Toronto, where Millie spent her last night of life. (http://www.emilyshouse.ca/donate/).
