Carolyn Svea (nee Haugen) Redford
January 6, 1942 - May 15, 2018
Carolyn was born on Tuesday January 6, 1942, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan at the age of 76 years. She was raised in Prince Albert and this is where she met her husband George Redford while he was employed with the Department of Natural Resources. Mom accompanied Dad while he was stationed in several small communities in Saskatchewan and also while he completed university in Saskatoon, after which they settled back in Prince Albert to raise their six children. Mom took a position with East Hill Nursery school in 1976 and under her leadership, the preschool eventually moved to Gateway Covenant Church and became Gateway Preschool. Mom cared for and taught hundreds of children over the years as the preschool became one of the largest in Prince Albert. In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with Dad, singing with various singing groups and caring for her great granddaughter Kaya. Mom is lovingly remembered by her 6 children, Kristina (Mike Sr.), Joan (Dean), Kenneth (Dorothy), George Jr., Leslie (Richard), Peggy (Trevor); her grandchildren, Mike Jr., TJ, Cabot, Kamiel, Cheralyn, Emilia, Xander, Codie, Chandra, Mackenzie, Kaleigh, Brock, Joshua, Kattie, Matthew, Taylor, Mykayla, Noah, Jaiden, Dontae, Ty and Taryn; her great-grandchildren, Kaya, Alex, Axton, Domonic, TJ, Chaundia, Destiny, Courtney, Oliver and Noah; her brother-in-law David (Marcia), her sister-in-law Doris, countless nieces, nephews and their families; special family members Terry and Mary (Dean) and her life long friend and sister of her heart Evelyn Kukac. Welcoming her to her new Heavenly Home is her husband George Redford and her granddaughter Courtney Redford, along with her lifelong friend and sister of her heart, Sharon Plummer and her mother Kathleen (Grandma) Relitz. She was also predeceased by her parents, Birger and Svea (nee Anderson), her sisters, Alice and Margaret, her mother-in- law and father-in-law Leslie and Sylvia (nee Rothwell) , her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Orrell and George Hough, her brothers-in-law, Edward and Albert, and their wives, Dianne and Noreen, her niece and nephews Heather, Cheryl, Jamie, and Shayne Redford, Trent Lafrenierre, Troy Loseth, and Gauy Carey, A special thank you to Dr. Gordon Surkan for his years of compassion and dedication to our family and also to the staff at Mount St. Joseph’s for their care and kindness to Mom and her family over the years. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Gateway Covenant Church, 1500 15 Street East, Prince Albert at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018, followed by a luncheon in the basement. Interment will follow in Garrick, Saskatchewan. We invite any former co-workers, students and parents to join her family and friends as we celebrate our mother’s life.
