Valerie Deturbide passed away on June 7, 2018 in Halifax. Valerie was born in Sydney, NS, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Niedzielski) Kiech.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Eugene, in 2008, and siblings, Mary (Baryluk), Alex, Ted and Jenny (Melski).
Valerie was a dedicated member of St. Mary's Polish Parish in Sydney. In her youth she was a passionate skater. In later years she became an impressive gardener, superb cook, and a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Joanne), Ann (Wade) and Barry (Jill); grandchildren, Katherine, Stephen, Devin, Justin and Ben; sisters, Bernice Ratushny and Louise Baker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to JA Snow Funeral Home, Halifax. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, Purcell's Cove Road, on Tuesday, June 12, 2 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A memorial service will also be held in Sydney at a later date.
