Elvis Parsons

Obituary
PARSONS, Elvis Daweson
October 14, 1961 – Newtown, Newfoundland
May 21, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce that Elvis, passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the age of 56 years. His sisters Joan and Mary, his niece Dinah and his brother-in-law Douglas were at his bedside during his final living days. Born to Samuel and Levetia Parsons, Elvis made his home in Newtown, Lumsden, Labrador City, Halifax and the last ten years in Calgary. Elvis faced many obstacles but was able to master most life skills with immense help from his family, friends and mentors. He worked his entire adult life in various jobs in the greenhouse industry and for Loblaw’s Superstores in Halifax and Calgary for fourteen years prior to his illness. A backyard party, mornings at the Farmer’s Market and hikes around the park were a few of the many past times Elvis enjoyed. He loved all animals especially dogs. Elvis loved travelling, visiting friends and family in Newfoundland, taking trips to Florida and Las Vegas, or spending a weekend in the Rocky Mountains. He traveled through eight of the ten provinces of Canada. Elvis was very inquisitive about the places he visited and while touring the parliament buildings in Ottawa once asked, “What do the workers do here in this building?” Certainly a question we’ve all asked once in a while! Of course his biggest passions were supporting his beloved Montreal Canadiens, his love for country music and roast chicken dinners with the family. Elvis required extra help in many areas of life but it was not a one-way street. He helped with his nieces and nephew in their younger years and he was never a person to say no to a small favour that usually turned into a big help. We all learned life lessons from this great man. Never give up, try to be kind, love your family, and take a little time to have fun. Elvis will be missed by his sister Joan (Winston) Goodyear and their children, and his sister Mary (Douglas) Watt. Elvis’ large circle of relatives, friends and co-workers will remember him fondly. A day of remembrance and celebration of Elvis will take place at a later date. Thank you for the loving care of the staff, Dr. Albuquerque and Dr. Bland at the Southwood Hospice in Calgary. Thank you Dr. Mirza, Elvis’ family physician, for your expertise and friendship. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice. In living memory of Elvis Parsons, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB, T2X 3J3, Telephone: 403-256-9575.
