Clifford Russell Hopkins
Clifford Russell Hopkins, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 30, 2018, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, CBRH with his loving family by his side. Born in Doctor’s Cove to Herbert Hopkins and Edith (Kenney) Hopkins, Cliff moved to Port Morien in 1948. It was then he met Kaye, the love of his life. They were married for 58 years and it warms our hearts to know that he and “his girl” are together again. He was Lynn and Jo’s 'Da' and an awesome Granda to his 5 grandchildren and their many friends. Cliff lived his life as a true gentleman. So many lives were impacted by his tremendous kindness and generosity. As a highly respected businessman at H. Hopkins Ltd., he spent much of his life at the cookhouse; he lived there, worked there and after his retirement at 81, he loved to stop in for a visit. When he wasn’t at the wharf, he was making memories in Florida and on the Mira River.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lynn Cuzner (Rodger) and Joanne Hopkins; grandchildren, Mitch (Jessie), Scott, Brad, Connor (Victoria) and Maggi; his best buddy, Luke; and siblings, Glenn (Josephine) and Louise MacHardy. He will be dearly missed by his family, his extended family of nieces and nephews and the fishing community.
Cliff was predeceased by his wife, Kaye (Edstrom) Hopkins and siblings, Katherine, Brad, Bill and Eddie. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Cliff felt there were three seasons in a year; before lobster season, lobster season and after lobster season. A celebration of his life will be held on July 22, 2018, at 1 p.m. at the Port Morien Legion --- after lobster season!
