Emerson Joseph Thurbide

Date de décès : 30 juin 2018

It is with deepest sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle and friend, Emerson Joseph Thurbide, age 68, on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Alder Point on December 14, 1949, he was the youngest son of the late Lewis and Mary (Devoe) Thurbide.
Although Emerson had no children of his own, he loved and cherished all his nieces and nephews just the same. Uncle Emsie was kind hearted when it came to them, and he will be extremely missed by all.
Emerson’s love for the water was always a part of him. In his earlier years, he sailed the Great Lakes, then became a fisherman, and continued to fish his entire life. He was a very generous man, especially to his family. So many lives have been blessed to have him in them. He will be always loved, never forgotten, and forever missed.
He is survived by his brothers, Edward and John, both of Alder Point, and his brother-in-law, Leonard MacLean.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Augustine; his sisters, Evangeline Mitchell and Rosalie MacLean; sister-in-law, Madonna Thurbide, and nephew, Gerald Thurbide.
Visitation for Emerson Thurbide will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2018 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will take place Friday, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Alder Point, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating.
Donations in Emerson’s memory may be made to St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or, or to a charity of choice.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.

EM
He was a simple man, who led a simple life,
Never had a child, never took a wife.
He fished, he farmed, he did no harm,
His laughter…. his greatest charm!

Big city life was never for him,
Great Lake sailing nearly did him in.
Returning to home, shattered and torn,
Back to his roots, back to where he was born.

A simple man with simple needs,
Hard work was all he’d plead.
Friends and family will gather round,
To morn a life too soon shut down.

A quiet man, honest and kind,
Now swept away by the hands of time.
No legacy will he leave behind,
Lost and forgotten in the waves of the tide.

He was a simple man, led a simple life
Never had a child never took a wife.
Sweat on his brow, calloused hands…
That was the life of this simple man.
