David Skinner age 64, born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton in 1953, son of Dr. Lyle A. and Henrietta (Peters) Skinner, passed away September 13, 2017, after living with stage four cancer for twenty-four years.
David is survived by his wife, Coleen Matthews of 37 years; their son, Lyle Skinner (fiancée Sonia Noveau); his sisters, JoAnn Boyd (Andrew, Matthew and Stephen) and Jane Skinner, her husband, Harry Hunter (Jeff, Matthew, Ben, Liam); his sister-in-law, Christene Celeste, her husband, Chris Celeste (Cali, Matthew).
David was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law, Paul Boyd and nephew, James Lyle Boyd.
After growing up in North Sydney, David became a cameraman for CBC. Like many Cape Bretoners he moved away for work but he never forgot his island roots.
David worked for CBC for over 35 years. During that time, he worked for The National, CBC News Brunswick and Compass in Charlottetown, PEI. Many of you reading this have never met David but you have seen his world through the lens of his camera.
David took great pride in mentoring his colleagues and students about how to find the ‘magic shot’ when recording the news. His legacy lives on with them.
There will be a celebration of David’s life, 2 p.m. Sunday July 22, 2018, at the St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, 24 King St., North Sydney. A reception will follow at the Northern Yacht Club, 27 Seaview Dr., North Sydney.
Donations in memory of David can be made to the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
