Konrad (Klaus) Suessmilch of Stonewall, Manitoba, born on August 8, 1934 passed away on May 14, 2011 from complications due to stroke. By his side was long time love of 22 years, Linda Edwards. Dad was born in Kemnitz, Germany where his formative youth was spent during World War II. In 1956 he immigrated to Canada and ultimately made his home in Saskatchewan where he was introduced to, and quickly fell in love with, the lake country. Friends forged from his many years at Waskesiu and then later Turtle Lake have many stories of his infectious charm and the indelible impression he always left on people. He lived and worked for many years in Prince Albert and then Saskatoon at Mer-Lin Motors and Jubilee Ford. During these years he and Lynn Flavelle raised a family and spent many evenings playing bridge with friends or enjoying jazz at the Bassment. A high point in Dad's life was a canoe trip along the Churchill River with three buddies from Germany. Still another was the beautiful cedar cabin he built situated on Indian Point at Turtle Lake. He loved having people come and visit there summer or winter and built some of the biggest and most perfect fires in his stone fireplace you ever saw. During an Easter trip in 1975 to the West coast of BC, Dad fell in love with the village of Tofino. He loved everything about it from chatting to the fishermen, the clam chowder to just being near the ocean. It continued to be one of his favourite excursions into later life. After a small stroke in 2001, Dad and Linda made the move to their Stonewall acreage where they enjoyed tending their horses, Whiskey the dog and other pets. With an avid interest in current events, politics, geography and hockey, he was always up for lively conversation and debate.
He leaves behind partner, Linda Edwards (Stonewall), daughters, Candace (Saskatoon), Christine (St. Albert), Kimberley (Jeff) Yausie, grandson Wil Yausie, grandaughter Beau Yausie (Saskatoon), brother Christian (Sabine), sister Traude (Horst), niece Martine and children, and his mother, Else Suessmilch, all in Germany. He was predeacesed by his father, Fredrich Suessmilch. As was his request, there will be no memorial service. Instead, remember the good times; the fun times, where Dad's laugh would boom out and carry everyone along with it. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Suite 200, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
