It is with deep sadness the family of Donald John Martin Grand announces his passing at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on May 20, 2011. Donald is predeceased by his Dad Hubert; Uncle Martin, Aunt Eileen and their daughter Karen Eidem; Uncle Benny Moen, and his Grandparents. He is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Barbara; son Martin, daughter Meagan, his Mom Maud; sisters and brother Karen (Ian) – Sherwood Park; Ron (Alice) – Moose Jaw; Janice – Moose Jaw; Sherry-Lynne (Duane) – Raymore, SK; Aunt Gladys Moen – Stewart Valley, SK; brother-in-law Frank (Cheryl) Muhle – Quesnel, BC; sister-in-law Marlene (Mike) Bartel – Moose Jaw; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his two cats Romeo and Ruffus. Donald was born in Swift Current, later moving to Moose Jaw to the South Hill area. He attended Empire School and Central Collegiate, graduating in 1958. Donald then enrolled in the Psychiatric Nursing Program at the Sask. Training School (now Valley View Centre), graduating in 1962. He later trained in E.E.G. and E.C.G. Donald met Barbara Muhle at the Bowling Lanes in 1980, they soon became a couple and were married in 1981. Bowling was one of Donald’s favourite things and he continued to bowl until 2009. Summers were spent at Turtle Lake with friends Vic and Barb Muirhead and Pat and Joe Stronach, among others. Donald retired from Valley View Centre in Oct. 1987 and became a full time Dad to Martin, Meagan would follow in 1992. He was President of the Tuxford Rec. Board for a few years until his declining health. He was always willing to help his community and neighbors in any way. Buffalo Pound was a favourite spot to meet some of his many friends after work for a hot dog roast, and for a water ski until dark. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday May 27, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for Family and Friends will take place on Thursday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, or to a charity of choice, would be appreciated.
