Joan MacKeigan
It is with great sadness, that we, the family of Joan Marie MacKeigan, Coldbrook, N.S. (formerly, Edgewood Drive, Sydney), announce her passing at Grandview Manor, Berwick, on Sunday, September 9, 2018.
Born in Sydney, Joan was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Hollahan) Corbett. She worked for lawyers, Simon Khattar and Stan Campbell, as well as the Nova Scotia Department of Highways, from which she retired. Joan loved to read, cook and spend time at the cottage in Baddeck with family. She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney. Joan is survived by her daughter, Audra (Derrick) Abbott, Coldbrook, N.S; sons, Parker, Bramalea, Ont. and Scott, Edmonton, Alta.; grandchildren, Carrigan and MacKenzie, Ernest (Brianna) Burton, Coldbrook, N.S. and Brendon Burton, Coldbrook, N.S.; great-grandchildren, Joelen, Brooklyn and Gracie; sister, Ruth Morse, Dartmouth, N.S.; brother, Frank (Bonita) Corbett, Sydney, N.S., sister-in-law, Paulette Corbett, Howie Center, N.S. and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband, Darryl; brother, John Corbett; sister-in-law, Ilyah (Morrison) Hatcher; brother-in-law, Lorimer Morse.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff, nurses and CCA’s at Grandview Manor for all their compassionate care. Also, to the VON and home support staff for their compassionate care prior to Joan entering Grandview Manor. Cremation has taken place and at the family’s request, there will be no service. Joan and Darryl will both be laid to rest in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a private family ceremony. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
