Roderick 93 passed away peacefully on October 1, 2018, at Alderwood Rest Home.
Born July 11, 1925, in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the only son of the late Charles and Catherine (Morrison) MacRae and big brother to four younger sisters; Betty, Charlotte, Chrissie and Shirley.
Following his service in the Canadian Army overseas in World War II, Roddie graduated from St. Francis Xavier University and Nova Scotia Technical College with a degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation, Roddie started his career as a Professional Engineer with the Nova Scotia Department of Highways. During this time, he worked on many major highway construction projects including the construction of the Trans Canada Highway which traversed the province. After 35 years with the “Department”, he retired in 1986 as Regional Construction Engineer for Cape Breton. He was a life member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia, a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and a proud member of Greenwood United Church.
Roddie will be sadly missed by his sisters, Elizabeth LeVatte, Charlotte LeGrow, Christine Lock, and Shirley Mason; brother-in-law, Jim Lock; sister-in-law, Helen MacDonald, and three generations of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; by Doris, his loving wife of forty years; by his nephew, Kendall LeVatte; and by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Roddie was a kind man with a quiet sense of humour, generous, active in the community, and you could set your watch by his routines! He was well-liked by all who knew him.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at Greenwood United Church, Baddeck, at 11 a.m., October 8th. with Rev. Mary Jo Harrison officiating, reception to follow. There will be coffee!
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.
