Hedley Byron Myers

Myers, Hedley Byron – age 89 of Dartmouth. Passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born August 10, 1929 in Dartmouth, he was the first son of the late Peter and Jean (Clark) Myers. Hedley is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen (McClare); sons, Randy (Daphne), Huntsville, Alabama, Cleve (Heather), Charlottetown; daughter, Laura Moores (James), Tupper Lake, Queens County; grandchildren, Hedley, Jamie, Lisa, Jaclyn, Kaitlin, Meghan, Allyson; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Stewart (Dawn) and Fred (Maureen), both of Dartmouth. He was predeceased by infant brother, Lewis. Hedley began his 39 year career with Imperial Oil at age 17 as a stock boy. He enjoyed many positions as he rose up the ladder through the sales division, including five great years in P.E.I. and then covering the Atlantic Provinces managing credit for the controllers division. He enjoyed sports, particularly the Blue Jays and curling, and was thrilled to be a member of the winning team at the 1981 Atlantic Oilmen’s Bonspiel out of a hundred rinks. Hedley was a wonderful piano player and entertained his fellow residents at Parkland at the Lakes on the grand piano for more than an hour earlier this month. Hedley and Helen enjoyed ballroom dancing for many years, and at age 70 he took up the fiddle and enjoyed practicing and touring with the Dartmouth Fiddlers for more than a decade. Over the years Hedley served in many positions at his home church, First Baptist in Dartmouth. He carried a strong faith from his early days as a boy until the moment he left us. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend. He will be sadly but lovingly missed by so many. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 19 with a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 20 with a reception to follow, all in Atlantic Funeral Home 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Hedley’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.
