May Beatrice Dragseth

May Beatrice Dragseth went to be with Jesus on October 23, 2018. May was born on May 10, 1920 to Oscar and Ida Dragseth in Brancepeth, SK. May was raised on the farm with her brothers Bud and Irvin and sister Adeline. May and Adeline were the “milk maids” at the farm and enjoyed working with all the other animals. Despite being stricken with polio at the age of 16, she completed her high school by correspondence, completed courses from the Lutheran Hour and the Canadian Sunday School Mission, and graduated from the Prince Albert Business College. She also spent a term at LCBI in Outlook. May’s career began in the spring of 1958 working as a stenographer with DNR PA Region, Northern Affairs, and Northern Health. She spent about 6 months commuting back and forth to La Ronge with the DNR. She retired in 1980. Throughout May’s life her passions included, gardening, writing, recording family history, driving her yellow Rambler, painting, picking blueberries, and visiting with her many friends. May was a member of The Messiah Lutheran Church and was a voice in the choir and held several positions in the Evangelical Lutheran Women organization. She was a supporter through prayer, donations, and camper at Camp Kinasao, supporter and treasurer of the Lutheran Radio Broadcast on CKBI, supported many Christian organizations around the world and was a lifelong supporter of the Saskatchewan CCF/NDP and its social programs. May established a lifelong relationship with her foster child Marilou from the Philippines. She will always be remembered for her great love of family and friends, always finding the best in others, sharing in the lives of sister Adeline’s family through her sense of humor and fun, faith, generosity, and unwavering support. Later in life she faithfully looked after her parents and siblings in their declining years. A highlight of her life was a trip to the Holy Land.
May is survived by her foster daughter, Marilou Velena, niece Juanita (Clint) Nissen, niece Dorothy Meyer, nephew Trevlyn Ganes (Lynn Turner), grand-nephews and nieces Christopher Nissen (Runa Hansen), Michael (Jodi) Nissen, Megan (Chris) Mueller, Amanda Meyer (Ian Erickson), Leah (Jeff) Young, Joshua (Jenny) Ganes, several great-grand nieces and nephews and many friends. Predeceased by her parents, Oscar and Ida Dragseth, brothers Irvin and Orville Dragseth, sister Adeline Ganes, brother-in-law Kermit Ganes and special cousin, Victor Johnson and several faithful pets.Thank you- Care-givers in Good Shepherd Villas and Nelson Care Homes Memorial Donation in May’s name can be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, Camp Kinasao, 1796 - 15 Ave E, Prince Albert, SK.
