Elwin Irvine Corbett

1940 - 2018
Elwin Irvine Corbett, born and raised in Warren Grove, died with his family by his side at the Provincial Palliative Care Centre after a courageous cancer journey. Elwin was 78 at the time of his passing. Proud father, loving husband, electrician turned owner of Palmer Electric, old timer hockey star and Leaf’s fan, teaser and storyteller, his ability to continually embellish his great yarns made them so that they never grew stale. Nothing thrilled Elwin more than if he was called out on the truth of a detail or two, his crumpled grin said it all. A grin he shared with his dear sister Ruth, who could have been his twin in body and spirit. Elwin was a man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life: A Sunday drive to his parent’s graves with a dog on his lap, a jar of bar clams or homemade jam or an aimless phone call with one of kids that never quite began and didn’t need to end, his life was one long conversation with the people fortunate enough to know Elwin well. Even as Elwin battled cancer, rather than complain about his own pain or diagnosis he would want to hear about “your” day. He never stopped being there for everybody, even as the arthritis in his ankles made it difficult to walk he would climb a ladder to hang a light for an old customer or friend. And he was known to leave the odd love note around the house, a sentimental man unafraid to show his heart. Elwin is survived by his loving wife Carol (nee Dunn), daughters Cathy (Garth) MacKinnon, Kim (Roger) Aspinall and Karen (Brent) Keenan and by sons Alan (Benda) Corbett and Darren (Lynn) Corbett and by stepson Keir Lowther (Robin Aitken). Elwin is survived by 14 wonderful grandchildren: Brooke, Brittany, Sarah, Josh, Amanda, Danielle, Meghan, Tyler, Tyson, Alyssa, Connor and Emily, and 6 great grandchildren, brothers Donnie (Brenda) Corbett and Wesley Corbett, sister-in-law Catherine (Kenneth MacNeill) Kennedy, brothers-in-law Allan Kennedy, James (Pearl) Dunn, and furry pal Cooper, and special nieces and nephews in Prince Edward Island and Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by father Irvine Corbett and mother Majorie (nee Thomson) Corbett, sisters Ruth (James deceased) Scott and Dorothy (Dottie) MacKenzie. A special thank you to all those involved in the Integrated Palliative Care Program whose support enabled Elwin to remain at home throughout much of his journey where he was happiest. In keeping with Elwin’s wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no wake or funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 25th at the Havilland Club from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Elwin gave so many people light and he will be deeply missed and never forgotten. Funeral arrangements in trust of Jenkin’s Funeral Home.
“Love you more.”
