Leo MacKinnon

Leo MacKinnon

Date de décès : 17 novembre 2018

With great sadness, we, the family of Leo MacKinnon, age 78, announce his passing on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on January 27, 1940, Leo was the son of the late Edward and Ellen Booker (Alderson) MacKinnon.
As a young man, Leo was a member of the Seafarers International Union, sailing the Great Lakes for many years, until he eventually became a stevedore with CN Marine.
Leo loved a good crossword puzzle and could often be seen with a dictionary in hand. He enjoyed watching a good baseball or hockey game, especially the Toronto Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs. Leo cherished visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would often call them by the loving and playful nicknames he’d given them. Leo walked with a quick step and took to a dance floor with an energetic two-step that was sure to bring a smile to your face. He was a strong willed, quick witted, caring and compassionate man with the strongest of hearts.
Leo is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie. On September 9, they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. They were a couple for over 56 years. Also left to mourn are his children, Leo (Michelle), Sydney Mines, Alounda (David), Ingonish, Marjorie, Sydney Mines, Alton (Terri), Sydney Mines and Pauline (Gary), Sydney Mines; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Marcel), Dupruis, Halifax, Jillian (Gerald), New Waterford, Caiden, Aleah, Jacob, Ella, Trista and Trinity; his great-grandchildren, Sophie, Lily, Henry, Beau and Alora; sister, Juanita (Robert) MacDonald, Ottawa; nephews, Charlie, aka ‘Binnie’ Burton, Ontario and Daryl Burton (Wallina), Sydney Mines, and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.
Besides his parents, Leo was predeceased by his beautiful daughter, Ella Leona ‘Leah’ MacKinnon; brothers, Charles, Edward, John, Neil (Eleanor Robertson), George (Muriel Fifoot), William (Veronica) and Alvin; sisters, Mary (John Burton), Isabel (Robert Potter) and Bernadette (John LeBlanc); brother, Leo in infancy; nephew, John Burton; niece, Ella Marie; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Mae MacDonald; brother-in-law, John MacDonald; sister-in-law, Nora MacDonald; niece, Corinna Jessome; nephews, Nicholas Withers, Zach MacDonald, and his best friend, Tommy Finlayson.
A sincere thank you to Dr. Blair Williams and to all the nurses and staff at the Northside General Hospital, especially those on 5 East. Your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
Cremation has taken place. Leo’s family will receive visitors on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will be held in the funeral home at 9 p.m.
Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
