Laurea Marie Burke
Laurea Marie Burke, 84, of Sydney passed in peace on December 16, 2018, in the QE2 Hospital in Halifax. Born in Caraquet, NB, on March 22, 1934, Laurea was one of 9 children of the late Henry and Anne-Marie Paulin. Laurea lived her life surrounded by her family who she loved dearly. She was an incredible sewer, quilter and paper tole artist and enjoyed playing cards, bingo, darts and camping. She loved to laugh, share stories about her time working at the Fortress of Louisbourg; the kind of laugh you can’t forget, where tears would stream down her face and she couldn’t stop, but that will live on in her children who share the same trait, she will be missed dearly by many.
Laurea is survived by her sons, Earl (Debbie) Grand Mira South; Cecil (Kelly), Sydney; Brian (Rosella), Sydney; Bruce (Sheila), Dutch Brooke; Bernie (Sandra), Lower Sackville; Peter, Sydney; Daughters, Debbie (John), Coxheath; and Karen (Daryl) Hillier, Dawson Creek; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; Sister, Gladys, Ontario; Brothers, Larry, Ontario; Alex, Ontario; along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Laurea was pre-deceased by her husband and love of her life for 65 years married, Ernest, Son; Donald, Sisters, Rita and Sarah; Brothers, Paul, Simon, and Laurie.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 12 - 2 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with a celebration of life to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Evo DiPierro officiating.
