Passed away in Ottawa, after a very brief illness, at the age of 94 years, Edward Janes, formerly of St. John’s. Predeceased by his loving wife, Loretta (Galway), his parents, John and Agnes (Foley) Janes, 43 Prince of Wales St., his brother Dermott (Madeline Dunne), and sisters, Dorothy (Dot) St. John and Carmel Olin. Leaving to mourn his best friend, Daphne Baxtrom, Ottawa, his brother Jack (Rita McCarthy), St. John’s; sisters Angela Burns, Michigan; and Marie Ryan (John), St John’s. Also, mourning Ned’s passing, Lilly Moyles, Laura Leah Antle, John Baldwin, Louise Conway, Angela Baldwin, Darlene Carruthers-Skemer, and Gerri-Lynn Sendyk, to whom he was a cherished father figure and uncle. Mourning his passing are many nieces and nephews in the United States, St John’s, Victoria, Toronto, and Ottawa. Ned was a great sportsman, having played as catcher for Holy Cross baseball team, a boxer, and he scored a perfect game at bowling. A Memorial Mass took place at Holy Redeemer Church, Ottawa. A Memorial Service and inurnment will take place in St. John’s at a later date. May he rest in peace.
