Marie Ward

Lieu de naissance : Isaac's Harbour, Nouvelle Ecosse

Lieu de décès : Glace Bay, Nouvelle Ecosse
Date de décès : 17 décembre 2018

Age 95, of Reserve Mines NS, passed away in the Glace Bay General Hospital on December 17, 2018 surrounded by family.
She was born in Isaac’s Harbour NS, the only child of Garfield and Alice Peitzsche.
Her parents died while Marie was still young, and she moved to Glace Bay NS to live on York Street with her cousins, the Billards. She would come to consider Art, Lewis and Gloria as her brothers and sister. Marie met the love of her life, Fred Ward, in 1938 and married him in 1942. Together they built their own home in the second co-op housing development in NS on Sunnyside Drive in Reserve Mines, where she was still living at the time of her passing. Marie was an active member of Gordon United Church choir and held the position of church treasurer until she was 90 years old. She loved to play cards, especially cribbage. However, family was always first and foremost and in her later years she doted on her nine great-grandchildren.
Marie was predeceased by her husband and her daughter and son-in-law, Laurella and George Cosnick.
She leaves behind her daughter, Alyce (Parkes); four grandchildren, Scott Cosnick, Susan Cosnick, Tracy (Parkes) Buker and Jennifer (Parkes) Berryessa and nine great-grandchildren, Alex, Alyssa, Savannah, Josh, Eleanor, Beatrix, Anderson, Charles and Samuel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to extend their appreciation for the excellent care she received from the nurses of the third floor of the Glace Bay General Hospital during her last hours. Marie was a kind, giving woman who touched many lives throughout her life. She was regarded as an honorary grandmother to many of the children who grew up on Sunnyside Drive, especially Keith MacIntyre.
Cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of Patten Funeral Home Glace Bay.
A celebration of Marie’s life will be held in the Spring; date and time to be announced later.
Donations in Marie’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.
