Rhoda Elizabeth Bickford

Date de décès : 21 décembre 2018

Rhoda Elizabeth Bickford, Age 72, passed peacefully away December 21, 2018, at the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre, Bell Island, in the comforting presence of a large circle of friends and family. Rhoda is predeceased by her loving parents Harry and Elizabeth Anderson and her youngest sister Gwynn. Leaving to mourn her is her devoted and cherished husband of 54 years, Cyril. Also remembering her with fond memories and aching hearts are her son Todd (Tina), daughter Colleen (Jason), grandchildren Tony (Krystal), Santanna (Shane) and Summer, and great granddaughters Evangeline and Jocelyne. Rhoda had 5 surviving siblings: Bob, Richard (Linda), Dorothy (Jerry), Patsy (Norm) and Bill (or Willy as she would often refer to him). She had an extended family of in-laws from Cyril’s side as well as many friends and acquaintances who saw for themselves her friendliness and warmth and will miss it dearly. Rhoda was born October 20, 1946 in Lisburn, Northern Ireland but moved to Canada with her family during the early 50s. They settled in Galt, Ontario and this is where at 17 years old Rhoda met and married her husband Cyril. They had their son Todd a year later. In the early 70s she and her new family relocated to Newfoundland. Upon arriving here Rhoda was welcomed into Cyril’s extensive family and the community of Lance Cove on Bell Island. In 1975 they added to their family with the birth of their daughter Colleen. Over the years Rhoda was a member of community groups such as “The Lancers" and she enjoyed playing softball with a local team. One of her favourite pastimes was watching her Blue Jay’s play baseball on TV. In recent years she could be found at bingo or playing cards for hours with her sister in law and caretaker Caroline and close friend Sandra. The family would sincerely like to offer their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Dr. H. Bliss Cancer Centre and the nurses and staff at the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre who cared so compassionately for her in her final days. The date and time of a memorial for the celebration of Rhoda’s life will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers please pass along a donation to the Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. If you cannot provide a monetary gift, please consider carrying out a kind act or gesture for a loved one or stranger in Rhoda's honour. Pay it forward as she would love to know that she was responsible for creating more kindness in a world that so desperately needs it...
