Maria (Mary) Mitchell (nee Pace) passed away peacefully in the early hours of January 11, 2019 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Wife of the late John A. (Obbie) Mitchell, Mary will be greatly missed by her son, Ian Mitchell (Allan Penning) of Toronto; her sisters, Anne Lee Kerr (Archie) of Sydney and Evelyne Phinnemore (Bryan) of Brampton, Ontario, and her many nieces, nephews and extended family across Canada and abroad.
Mary was predeceased by her brother, Rudy Pace (Shirley) of Sydney, and her sister, Linda Strickey (Frank) of Falmouth, NS.
Mary was born in Sydney on March 2, 1928 to the late Emilio and Elsie Pace and grew up in a musical house on Charlotte Street. She was known as an accomplished pianist and played for several years in her father’s renowned orchestra.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful nurses and staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, especially the team in Irish Cove.
Visitation at Chant’s Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Wednesday January 16 from 12 to 2 p.m. Celebration of life to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Internment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mary’s memory to a charity of your choice.
