Age 81, Lower Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (MacGregor) Crowe. Donna was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro, where she sang in the choir. She was a proud card-carrying member of The Liberal Association for many years. Donna worked with mentally handicapped young adults at The Butler Centre and following in her mother’s footsteps, volunteered with The Special Olympics. At age 47, she attended Nova Scotia Teacher’s College, graduated with honors and went on to teach part time at various schools and then worked as a social worker at various group homes. In her spare time, she enjoyed painting landscape, portrait and architectural watercolors, which she has gifted to her family and friends, and also enjoyed spending many summers at the family cottage at Shortts Lake. Donna is survived by her children, Nancy Pyke, Truro; Jon (Betty) Morrison, Dartmouth; Peter Morrison, Hamilton, Ontario; grandchildren, Maggie Pyke, Brendan Morrison, Kate Morrison, Joy Pike-Morrison, Eva Pike Morrison; great grandchildren, Chloe and Weston Morrison; sister, Linda (Gregor) Fraser, Chester; niece, Mary (Jimmy) Rafuse; nephew, Malcolm (Jennifer) Fraser; cousin, Vicki (Burt) MacLean. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Vernon McLellan, and father of Nancy, John and Peter, Ivan Morrison. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., today, Thursday, January 17, 2019, at St. John’s Anglican Church, 23 Church Street, Truro, The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating. Reception will follow in Kaulbach Hall. If so desired, donations in Donna’s memory to The Special Olympics, Poppy Fund of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro or Diabetes Canada are welcomed.
