On Sunday, January 20, 2019, Robert Wayne “Bob” Richards of Dutch Brook, passed away peacefully in Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Robert “Bob” was born February 13, 1945, son of the late Morgan and Dorothy (Penney) Richards of South Bar.
Bob was a dairy farmer, which was his passion. He also owned and operated Bob’s Collision Repairs for a number of years. Bob served as president of the Cape Breton Federation of Agriculture and was on the Council of Leaders. He also served on the board of the Farmers Co-Op and was a member of the Mira Pasture Co-Op. Bob believed farming was the most honest and honorable way a person could spend their days on this earth and he was always happy to be on the farm.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Lou (Collins); children, Paula, Karen (Paul), Scott (Jody) and David (Kelly); grandchildren, Tyler, Lucas, Jacob, Olivia and Katelyn; nephews, Keith and Brian Pothier and John Trai; niece, Diane, as well as cousins, Rosemary (Jerry) Lewis and Richard (Catherine) Spears.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Pothier.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Thursday, January 24 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Eastmount Cemetery.
Memorials may made to the United Protestant Church of Sydney River or Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
