Harry Demone

Harry Demone

With broken hearts, we, the family of Harry Joseph DeMone, regret to announce his passing on Sunday, January 20, 2019, surrounded by his two children and loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born June 26, 1953, in Sydney, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary (Hughes) DeMone. After graduating from Sydney Academy in 1973, Harry pursued a career in sales, working for 25 years at Atlantic Meats, followed by accounting and bookkeeping work for various companies. He volunteered at St. George’s Church in New Glasgow for many years, holding the title of Senior Warden, where he also ran the Men’s Breakfast Club and managed all church properties. For 20 years, Harry was Referee in Chief for Sydney. In earlier years, he could be found around the rink with his children and more recently, with his grandchildren. He lovingly attended any sport which they were involved and was their greatest supporter and fan. In honor of his granddaughter, Keyaira, Harry was a huge supporter of the Children’s Wish Foundation. He is survived by his children, Krista (Vince) MacNeil and Derrick (Melissa), both of Sydney; their mother, Belinda (Steele) DeMone; grandchildren, Coady, Jackson, Tyson, Isaiah, Keyaira and Rylan. He is also survived by his sisters, Bernice (Robert) Muise, New Glasgow, Corinne (Ron) Smallwood, Halifax, Karen (Ian) Fraser, Raylene (Joe) Broussard and Judy (Donnie) McKenna, all of Sydney; brothers, Donnie (Trudy), Jerry, Walter (Deborah) and Warren (Gloria), Sydney, Stuart (Maryann), Ont. and Roger (Janice), California; brother-in-law, Tom Hennick, Ontario; many nieces and nephews.
Harry was predeceased by his sister, Barb Hennick and nephew, Michael DeMone.
Harry’s children would like to thank all family and friends for their help and support. As well as the staff at the CBRH, especially 4D, who looked after Dad providing impeccable care. Also, Dr. MacKillop, Dr. Fashir and Dr. D’Intino for compassionately caring for our Dad.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Falen McNulty officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
