Gordon Roderick MacKenzie

Gordon Roderick MacKenzie

Date de décès : 2 février 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden, but peaceful passing of Gordon Roderick MacKenzie, at home on February 2, 2019. Born in Sydney he was the son of the late Gardiner and Katherine (Morrison) MacKenzie.
Gordie grew up on Campbell Street in the North End. He worked for Eastern Drug and Woolco, along with being a courier driver later in his career. Gordie was an avid Blue Jays and Maple Leaf’s fan. He could often be found every Friday night at Branch 12 legion, with “The Boys” and ready for a game of pool. He also enjoyed sitting in his apartment window with his binoculars watching and "managing" the ships in Sydney Harbour. A simple man who loved nothing more than the company of his family and friends.
Gordie will be lovingly missed by his wife, Mary (MacEachern); daughter, Barb (Kyte) Power and son, John (Cheryl); grandsons, Evan and Brent MacAdam, and one great-granddaughter, Stella Rose MacAdam. He is also survived by his sister Marjorie (Guy) Sanvido; nephew, Joshua Sanvido, and sister-in-law, Barbara Birch.
Besides his parents, Gordie is predeceased by his sons, Ronnie and Donnie.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Gordie will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cape Breton Harvest Community Church (Former St. Anthony Daniel’s) Alexandra Street, Sydney. Funeral service to be held Wednesday, February 6 at 11 a.m. in the Harvest Church Chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gordie’s memory can be made to the Branch 12 Legion, or to the Cancer Patient Care Fund of the CBRH.
