Rose Noreen Spencer

Rose Noreen Spencer

Date de décès : 9 février 2019

Rose Noreen Spencer (Rosina Leonora Strangis) died on February 9, 2019 at the age of 88.
Rose is survived by her husband, Colin; daughter, Maureen (Gino); grandchildren, Fiora and Colin; sisters-in-law, Lillian Strangis and Florence Strangis; and extended family and friends. Rose was predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Raffaela Strangis; siblings Jennie, Rachel, John, Frank, and two brothers who died in infancy; her brothers-in-law, Greg (Bud) O’Flaherty and Mike Curry; and her nephew, Greg O’Flaherty.
Rose was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on November 8, 1930. Rose attended Normal School in Truro, Nova Scotia and began teaching at 19 years of age. She would later go on to finish her Bachelor’s degree through evening classes. In 1967, Rose moved “out west” with her life-long friend, Lorraine LeBlanc, to continue their teaching careers in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1969, she was introduced to the love of her life, Colin Spencer, and they were married on July 25, 1970 in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Rose and Colin started their married life in Hinton, Alberta and on June 3, 1971, they welcomed their daughter Maureen. When Maureen married Gino, Rose formed a fast bond with her son-in-law, and he truly became her son. Rose became a Grandma twice over, first on September 29, 2000 (Fiora) and then again on January 3, 2003 (Colin). She loved every moment of being a Grandma, doting on her grandchildren at every opportunity, and playing hours and hours of “Go Fish”. Rose and Colin moved to Edmonton in 2006, and then to St. Albert in 2013. Everywhere Rose went, she made friends easily, and became a confidante and shoulder to cry on for many.
A Visitation will take place at Evergreen Funeral Home, 16204 Fort Road, NW, Edmonton, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019.
A Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Fr. Ed McSheffrey, OMI, officiating.
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff and volunteers of Unit 5 at Youville Home in St. Albert, who provided compassionate care to Rose during her last years and provided such love and concern for Rose and her family during the last week of her life.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories ().
