It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcella Mary Gillis, age 94, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in North Sydney on September 30, 1924, Marcella was the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Mary Jane (Gaulton) Gallop. She was employed for many years as a registered nurse at the Northside Community Guest Home until her retirement. Marcella enjoyed knitting, going to bingo and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Marcella was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Jim) Bona, North Sydney; her three sons, David (Suzanne) Gillis, Sherbrooke, Tommy (Ann Marie) Gillis, Mississauga, Kevin (Ruth Anne) Gillis, North Sydney, also by her special niece, Janie (Trevor) MacLennan; her grandchildren, Jaime (Neil) Campbell, Michelle (Gerritt) Taylor, Breanne Gillis, Ryan (Chelsea) Gillis, Courtney Gillis, Dylan, Jade, Sam and Max Gillis; her five great-grandchildren, Finn, Cove, Meadow, Saylor and Paisley.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Margaret MacNeil and a twin sister, Minnie in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.
Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
